Yunnan ethnic villagers in China are famous for their creativity and techniques in embroideries. Stitch by stitch, using threads made with natural dyes, they interpret nature and their daily surroundings into embroideries with great eye, care, joy and pride. Motifs of flowers, butterflies, architectural characteristics, legends and folklores are often the themes of design and each is unique with no two pieces being alike. It is a major project for the young Yunnan women to hand make their future wedding outfits with elaborate embroideries. Our pillow sham is made of pieces of embroidery taken from the antique wedding outfits of the Yunnans' ladies. The antique embroidery is then appliqued on colorful linen creating pieces that are sophisticated and yet down to earth items for contemporary enjoyment! Unique, earthy and simply beautiful!
